“Alexa call my Grandchildren”….

The goal of Aging in Place (AIP) is always the same: design and build a beautiful, safe, socially connected home so you never move again. A majority of older adults (nearly 90%) desire to age-in-place. Advancements in smart technology improving medical and social connections to family members and caregivers have increased the length of time a senior can safely remain in their home. Universal design is a financially intelligent concept growing among middle age adults when updating and designing a new home.

As the cost of senior communities continue to rise, adults are recognizing the reality of supplemental costs associated with senior living communities. Whether transitioning to a new residence or remaining in your own home, a CAPS professional can walk you through the entire age-in-place process. Starting your AIP plan is beneficial anytime regardless of age. Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists (CAPS) explain the process and occupational advantages of a custom home design.

Successful aging in place begins with safety and security resulting in happiness for you and your loved ones. One in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Falls and accidents in the home are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older adults. Recovery from a fall often involves an emergency room visit, hospital stay, and months or years of rehabilitation. Proper age-in-place assessment, design, and implementation begins with an experienced certified age-in-place specialist.

The National Aging In Place Council, based out of Washington D.C., created a mission for aging in place awareness with viable lifestyle options for older Americans via education, advocacy, and accessibility to services. The NAIPC Chicagoland Chapter is a group of licensed professionals, business owners, and advocates dedicated to servicing families with age-in-place related services.
